Cal Students, You are invited to attend a Global Poverty & Practice Minor Information Session! The GPP Minor introduces students to the theoretical frameworks, methods, and practical skills necessary to engage with global poverty and inequality in effective ways.  The minor requires five courses and a "Practice Experience."  This experience is a central component of the minor in which students partner with domestic or international non-governmental or community organizations, government agencies, or other poverty or development programs, on various dimensions of poverty action – from food security and sustainable technologies to economic justice and grass-roots political power.   The combination of the coursework for the minor and this real world experience allows students to connect theories and practices of poverty action.  Funding is available to support students’ practice experiences. The deadline to declare the Minor this semester is Thursday, March 5th. There are no prerequisites to declare. Our Information Sessions will provide an overview of the Minor and demonstrate how students from all disciplines can benefit from it. Come learn about the minors sessions will be held on Wednesday November 13th Wednesday November 20th. Information sessions will be held from 6:30PM to 7:30PM in room 106, Wurster Hall. Food and beverages will be provided. Minors offered: Architecture City & Regional Planning Environmental Design and Urbanism in Developing Countries History & Theory of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning History of the Built Environment Social & Cultural Factors in Design Sustainable Design This will be a great opportunity for those interested to speak with current environmental design students to learn more about their experiences and the requirements to graduate with a minor from the CED. Students in the Minor study poverty and responses to poverty in a historical and global context, and develop critical thinking skills that support their ethical and reflective engagement in poverty action. The "Practice Experience" is a central component of the Minor in which students partner for a minimum of five weeks, with non-governmental or community organizations, government agencies, or other poverty or development programs domestically or internationally.
