Background: In 2006, Hart Howerton began an educational initiative to fund a select number of Fellowship positions for students at design schools. Each summer, Fellowships allow the firm to employ students in planning, architecture and/or landscape architecture internships in our New York or San Francisco offices. The Fellowship also provides funded travel for research on a topic the Fellow selects. Application Process/Fellowship Schedule: The application is a downloadable PDF on our website, www.harthowerton.com . The submittal of an accompanying portfolio will be in electronic form, uploaded to the Hart Howerton website. Hart Howerton Principals make the final selections, though they may seek information from the relevant schools when appropriate. The fellowship, in memory of one of the most outstanding documentary photographers of the 20th-century, encourages the use of photography (black and white or color) in the scholarly work of any discipline at UC Berkeley. The fellowship will be awarded to a UC Berkeley faculty member, a graduate student, or a senior who has been accepted for graduate work at Berkeley. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding work in documentary photography and a creative plan for future work. The selected fellow will receive $4,000.  The submission deadline is Friday, Dec. 5, 5 pm. The 67th Japan-America Student Conference Deadline: December 31, 2014 The Center for Japanese Studies, in partnership with the Institute of East Asian Studies, grants full scholarships to the Japan-American Student Conference for Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students. Awards are open to any full-time student with an interest in Japan. The Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) is a student-led exchange program, initiated in 1934 by university students concerned by the breakdown of bilateral relations prior to the Second World War. Today, an equal number of students from the U.S. and Japan are competitively selected each year to spend one summer month together, studying and analyzing Japan-U.S. relations while visiting four diverse regions in the host country. Dear Students, Arcosanti, Paolo Soleri's architecture & urban design laboratory in Central Arizona, is accepting applications for the Geoffrey H. Bruce Fellowship. This fellowship seeks to deepen the Arcosanti experience for students and recent graduates in a variety of design-related fields. The recipient of the fellowship will receive funding for one 5-week workshop between June 2013 and June 2014. Founded in 1970, Arcosanti is testing ground for innovations in architecture, urban design, and ecology. Designed according to Soleri's concept of arcology (architecture + ecology), this project seeks to demonstrate new ways to improve urban conditions, lessen our negative impact on the earth, and find new strategies for communal living. Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships provide funding to students to encourage the study of critical and less commonly taught foreign languages in combination with area studies, international studies or international aspects of professional studies. These fellowships are funded with grants from the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. Newsflash: Spring 2013 Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP) project listings with an extended deadline (Friday, February 8th, 3 PM) are now available on our website at http://research.berkeley.edu/urap/projects/openlist.lasso .  Each year MASS Design Group hosts Global Health Corps Fellows to join our design team in Kigali, Rwanda. This year we are bringing on board a couple Design Fellows and Research and Strategy Fellows. Candidates need to hold a undergraduate degree by the spring of 2013, and so sharing the news among soon-to-be graduates of the undergraduate program, and among graduate students would be ideal.
