The Cal Student Orientation (CalSO) program is part of New Student Services (NSS). Since the 1960s, CalSO has introduced new undergraduates and their families to the Berkeley campus through CalSO and Getting Your Bearings. The key to our success is the group of continuing Cal students who help implement and facilitate our programs.  The goal is to hire students who, as a group, will represent the full spectrum of activities, interests, and experiences of Berkeley students. Haas Public Service Leaders Program seeks to grow a new generation of leaders devoted to serving the public good. Peter Haas was a legendary Cal alumnus and friend to UC Berkeley who was known for his deep commitment to helping others. The program provides scholarships and leadership training for up to 20 undergraduates who demonstrate a commitment to taking action in support of the University’s public service mission. By cultivating student leadership and a lifelong commitment to service, the program has an ever-broadening impact in supporting those students to engage their peers in public service. The University of Texas at Austin‘s Center for Sustainable Development is pleased to announce the inaugural “Design Futures” Public Interest Design (PID) Student Leadership Forum . The event will be held at UT-Austin, May 28-June 1, 2013. It will unite a select group of multi-disciplinary students and emerging leaders in the PID field. The forum will explore the emergence of PID in history, and will examine a range of issues related to skills development and best practice in this rapidly emerging field. Established leaders in the field will share their perspectives on the theory, practice, and experience of PID across the world through explorations of different models of practice and how to approach different topics such as affordable housing, public space, international development, and more. From a recent CED grad for those of you interested in energy/sustainability: I don't know if you have heard or know about the myPower campaign at Berkeley, which includes the campus energy dashboard that went live/public last week ( mypower.berkeley.edu ). I worked on the technical aspects of the project, and I'm pretty excited to see it live finally because the whole project took longer than anticipated.  The campaign is also recruiting volunteers, which they call "Power Agents".
