The GPP Minor introduces students to the theoretical frameworks, methods, and practical skills necessary to engage with global poverty and inequality in imaginative and effective ways. The "Practice Experience" is a central component of the Minor in which students partner for a minimum of five weeks, with non-governmental or community organizations, government agencies, or other poverty or development programs, on various dimensions of poverty action – from community health and food security to economic justice and grass-roots political power. This real world experience, which can take place domestically or internationally, allows students to connect theories and practices of poverty action. Fellowship funding is available to support students’ practice experiences. The deadline to declare the Minor this semester is Thursday, October 17th. The course is still open to enrollments until September 24. You will complete all course requirements by the end of October, leaving you free to focus on your other courses through midterms and finals. Dear Community! The Multicultural Immigrant Student Program (MISP) is looking for new interns for the academic year of 2013-2014! MISP is a program created through collaboration with the Chican@ Latin@ Student Development and the Asian Pacific American Student Development Offices. The interns work on different projects each year to create programming, events, organizations, and more in order to help and empower immigrant and AB 540/undocumented students on campus. Projects vary vastly and we welcome all kinds of work and creativity. Previous projects have included initiating and organizing the AB 540/Undocumented Students Coalition which composes of staff, faculty, and students interested in advancing the status of these students. MISP has also created and facilitated an immigration DeCal in the past which now has become a field studies class available for students to take through the Ethnic Studies Department on campus. Because graduation is coming up, the Student Technology Council would like to reach our seniors to take advantage of downloading free and useful resources such as Adobe and Microsoft software (along with other programs, such as an upgrade to Windows 8), that they will not be able to access for free once they graduate. Many graduated seniors have already complained about having missed out on this opportunity, so we hope to reach students now before the influx of graduation emails. Opportunity for Paid Planning Survey Work in Berkeley this Week Hi all, DCRP alums Kevin Shively and Michael Rhodes of Nelson/Nygaard are seeking help with transport-related intercept survey work in Berkeley on Thursday, April 4th and Saturday, April 6th. This is a great opportunity to learn about intercept surveys and be paid too! They are doing work with the City of Berkeley on the travel, vehicle ownership and parking patterns of local residents. The pay rate would be $16 per hour, for the following schedule: Wednesday, April 3rd Training in Berkeley 4:30-5:30 pm.
