We hope American students and international students will develop cultural awareness and acquire intercultural competency through frequent cross-cultural interaction. Tumml is an urban ventures accelerator with a mission to empower entrepreneurs to solve urban problems. Make a difference in a young person's life by utilizing your passion and experience in architecture, city planning, or design by mentoring a 7th or 8th grade student whose dream job is to go into a design-oriented career path! In addition, there is almost no traveling involved as the student will be traveling to you. About Spark: Spark is the only youth empowerment program in the country that addresses the dropout crisis by re-engaging at-risk, 7th and 8th grade students through hands-on, individualized apprenticeships ( www.sparkprogram.org ). These workplace-based apprenticeships—in professions each student has identified as a “dream job”—are complemented by a leadership curriculum, integrated in the student’s classroom as an elective. Project SMILE (Spreading Multiculturalism and Inspiring Leadership through Education) is UC Berkeley’s largest student-run mentoring organization. CED students - please consider being a mentor to a prospective CED transfer student!! -Susan Dear Campus Colleagues, I am very pleased to inform you that the Starting Point Mentorship Program (SPMP) is currently in progress at the Transfer, Re-entry, and Student Parent Center. For the Spring 2013 semester, one of SPMP's primary goals is to recruit and encourage potential mentors from as many of Berkeley’s wide array of colleges and departments as possible. Each semester, the program serves roughly 200 prospective transfer students, or mentees. In a typical semester, at least half of these will pursue admission either to the College of Engineering or School of Business. Many will apply to the Colleges of Chemistry, Natural Resources, Letters & Sciences, or Environmental Design. Though we can never predict the mentees’ academic interests, we can be certain that they will cover a broad and diverse intellectual spectrum. Want to help the Fall 2013 freshman class with their transition to campus and life here in Berkeley? If so, we're excited to share with you a brand new opportunity! The Peer Mentorship Program will pair current Berkeley students (you!) with new incoming students for the Fall 2013 semester. Each peer mentor will be assigned a small group of new students to help adjust to Berkeley. Some activities you can share with your mentees include: hosting small socials events attending a program already happening on campus going out to eat or to have coffee/tea any fun activity that brings the group together! The Starting Point Mentorship Program is currently recruiting transfer student mentors who can offer some of their time every week to prospective UC Berkeley transfer students. Mentors can be an invaluable source of guidance and support to community college transfer students navigating the UC Berkeley application process. By recruiting student mentors from all corners of our campus, we will help to ensure that our mentees receive the very best help available while cultivating meaningful, valuable peer relationships that will continue to serve them well should they enroll at Cal. I strongly believe that having a mentor with the same or similar major will significantly improve the experience of SPMP’s mentees, and most importantly, will impact in a positive way our mentees’ perspective of what it is to be a Berkeley student. Dear CED transfer students, You have so much knowledge and insight to share with other transfer students - please consider becoming a mentor! There are two great opportunities for you to assist transfer students, both coordinated by the Transfer, Re-Entry, Student Parent program: 1. Participate in the Starting Point Mentorship Program (mentor prospective students as they go through the application process; see attached flyer). This program involves taking a 1-2 unit class through the transfer center. 2. Mentor current CED transfer students through the Major Insights program.
