Cal-ADAR , Berkeley's mentored research program in demography of aging for underrepresented undergrads is  now  accepting applications for its Spring 2020 cohort. Demography of aging uses data to examine life course – how early life events or situations influence later life – and population studies – births, deaths, migrations. For the spring 2020 semester, the priority deadline is  December 7, 2019,  although we will accept applications through  January 15, 2020.  Through financial support, mentoring, internships and other opportunities, Cal-ADAR will provide you a frame of reference on graduate school in some area of population research: sociology, public health, geography, economics, public policy or another field. You will also gain marketable skills and experience for after graduation. The Berkeley Center for New Media is offering three research assistant positions with our amazing graduate students! Each position is worth $1,000 and requires approximately 65 hours of work. You'll be paid the full amount after your supervisor confirms you have worked 30 hours and they anticipate you will complete the remaining portion. You will also receive BCNM new media certificate credit for EITHER engagement OR graduate level research upon completion of the project! Dear undergraduate students in the arts and humanities, I am writing to let you know about a valuable information session that will address prizes, scholarships, and opportunities to obtain funding for research and creative projects in the arts and humanities.   Honors theses and the below-listed opportunities will be addressed briefly in the first half hour, by departmental advisors (among them Ken Mahru from English) and those who run some of the programs (among them Leah Carroll, Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarships -- URAP, Haas Scholars, and SURF; Siti Keo, Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, and Juan Esteva, McNair and Firebaugh Scholars Programs). This year the Center for the Study of Representation will award  four research grants   of $500 each to U.C. Berkeley undergraduate students who are conducting research on an aspect of American politics, including public opinion, electoral behavior, civic participation, government institutions, social movements, and public policy. Students from a broad range of disciplines are encouraged to apply. The grant may be used to cover research expenses such as traveling to Washington, DC, to interview lawmakers; buying a dataset; or covering photocopying costs at an archive. If you meet the following criteria, you are eligible to participate in an  hour-long session in Dwinelle Hall that pays $15  (consisting of filling out some forms on your language background, reading some words aloud, and having a conversation in Spanish).
