Are you interested in making new friends from various countries? A​re you eager to learn about different cultures? In the Department of Sociology, we have over 250 international students studying here for a short ​period of time, and the Cultural Peer Mentors are here to assist them with their transition. We hope American students and international students will develop cultural awareness and acquire intercultural competency through frequent cross-cultural interaction. This is an important skill to develop as the world of work and social networking becomes increasingly more diversified internationally In this program, you will:Meet friends from diverse backgrounds. ​​Create and plan exciting activities for your own group of mentees. ​​Work with a team of Cultural Peer Mentors to develop your leadership skills. Student Mentoring and Research Teams (SMART) Summer 2014 Program For UCB Undergraduate Students May 30 - August 8, 2014 Graduate Division, University of California, Berkeley SMART Website and Applications Materials: http://smart.berkeley.edu/ 2014 SMART Program Description: Student Mentoring and Research Teams (SMART) is a summer program designed to encourage graduate student professional development and foster undergraduate research through mentoring. Approximately twenty doctoral student mentors from a variety of academic disciplines and twenty undergraduate mentees (from any campus academic department or program) will be selected. Each graduate participant will receive a summer stipend of $5,000 and each undergraduate participant will receive funding as a Student Assistant in the amount of $3,500.
