For our 2020  Urban Transformation  course, offered by Red Tree Study in partnership with Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) in Medellin, we are delighted to announce that we have a full scholarship, to the value of $2,550 USD, as well as several smaller travel bursaries. This scholarship funds participation in our two-week academic summer course taught by the RIBA-Accredited Architecture School at Pontificia Universidad Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia. Medellin, the birthplace of ‘social urbanism’, was once one of the world’s most dangerous cities, yet is now famous for its pioneering innovative urban projects that have transformed the lives of many of its citizens. The ten week, hands-on, multi-disciplinary, educational program will take place amid the Blue Ridge Mountains in beautiful Asheville, NC. The DesignBuild Studio will run from June 1 to August7. Student applications are due by April 15. This summer students will work with the local community to explore how design can address issues of community sustainability. Students will define, generate, and explore conceptual solutions while integrating technical, financial, legal, and social constraints to complete a built project. The 2015 ​ DesignBuild Studio will explore the process of developing conceptual solutions and translating them into a built space. The program will be led by instructors Luke W. The AshevilleDesign Center is excited to announce our Summer 2014 Asheville DesignBuildStudio . The ten week, hands-on, multi-disciplinary, educational program will take place amid the Blue Ridge Mountains in beautiful Asheville, NC. This summer, ADC will be partnering with the YWCA of Asheville to build an outdoor classroom for children taking part in their after-school and summer camp programs. An exciting opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students interested in Arctic environmental change. During this 16-day field excursion to Alaska's North Slope from June 6-21 2014, students will learn about Arctic vegetation, soils, landforms, permafrost, geology, wildlife and land-use along the incredible transect from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, which traverses boreal forest, alpine, and Arctic biomes. Plant species and vegetation will be studied in the context of environmental gradients and methods for vegetation sampling and description will be taught. Students will undertake an independent research project of their choosing. Ten days will be spent camping at different locations along the route. We will also stay at Toolik Field Station, a world-renowned Arctic research station. Deadline: Sunday, March 30, 2014, Midnight (PST) Internship placements are typically eight to twelve weeks long and take place over the summer months (mid-May to mid-August). The Cal Energy Corps provides undergraduate participants with transportation and housing costs, as well as a weekly stipend of $600 for the duration of the internship. All participants receive the same stipend. All placements are full-time; interns generally work 40 hours per week and report directly to a supervisor at the partner organization. During the internship, Cal Energy Corps participants provide regular updates on their work to UC Berkeley. Following the internship, students then participate in a widely attended Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute Cal Energy Corps Symposium to share their experiences and lessons learned.
