Co-sponsored by AIA San Francisco and UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design An exhibit about the architecture of incarceration featuring photographs by artist Richard Ross, drawings of solitary confinement cells by people currently being held inside, and rarely seen designs for execution chambers built in the US. The exhibit highlights problematic and little-known spaces within United States prisons and detention centers that house activities deemed to violate human rights. This fall marks the 50th anniversary of the Free Speech Movement. The campus will celebrate and honor this occasion by hosting over two dozen events .  These events will be followed by a reception with light refreshments where you can meet the speaker(s) and other interested students. Queer Awareness Days takes place annually during the last two weeks of April as a way to increase visibility of LGBTQ issues at UC Berkeley, engage the campus community through educational events and campaigns, and celebrate everything queer! We are excited to announce the launch of a new online chat game for UC Berkeley’s incoming class of 2013 (and everyone else on campus!), the Turing Test Tournament.   The Turing Test Tournament is an experimental chat-based game that will connect you with thousands of other Berkeley students in a contest of identity. Each year the Black Students in Health Association (BSHA), the Chicanos/Latinos in Health Education (CHE), and the Pilipino Association for Health Careers (PAHC) of UC Berkeley unite forces to host the Minorities in Health (MIH) Conference. The goal of the conference is to educate students on health disparities that affect our communities and find ways to decrease these disparities by encouraging and inspiring both high school and undergraduate students to strive toward higher education and ultimately careers in health. I am pleased to announce that USC has partnered with ACSP to host the first summer pre-doctoral workshop for students of color. This effort is designed to enhance the diversity of students who are pursuing Ph.D. degrees in planning. The workshop is planning focused, and our goal is to attract and recruit the most talented students from groups that have been under-represented on planning faculties. Hello Transfer Students! My name is Adena, and I am the Program Coordinator for the Berkeley City College Service Community (BCCSC). This program was created through the Cal Corps Public Service Center at UC Berkeley, and its goals are to help community college students transfer to four year institutions and get involved in public service. We provide transfer and scholarship workshops, as well as one Shadow Day a semester. Would you be interested in being a Group Leader for our Shadow Day? Shadow Day is an opportunity for prospective transfer students to visit the Cal campus, connect with transfer resources, and connect with the transfer community. For this event, we need Group Leader to lead a personalized tour, answer questions, and share their personal experiences with the transfer process.
