Participate in Solar Spring Break

The 2018 Solar Spring Break Team is Recruiting!
Planning for spring break but tired of umbrellaed drinks and flamingo floats? Want to harness the power of the sun and learn tons about renewable energy instead? Join the 2018 Solar Spring Break team for an altruistic, intellectually-enriching, resume-embellishing Spring Break that involves conduit bending, Silicon Valley touring and much more!!


This is the 5th year in which the SERC partners with GRID Alternatives to provide Solar Spring Break, a meaningful and rewarding service trip for a team of Cal students.
Members on the Solar Spring Break 2018 team will learn to install a residential solar panel system through hands-on experience and trainings from licensed solar panel installers. We are looking for students with lots of or no experiences with renewable energy from diverse backgrounds. Don’t hesitate to apply if you are interested in learning about environmental justice, the renewable energy industry, solar panel construction. Solar Spring Break’s direct impacts include:
  • Financial savings for a low-income family
  • Reducing carbon emission
  • Hands-on, technical educational enrichment for UC Berkeley students and Opportunity for future involvement GRID Alternatives volunteer program.
*Metrics from last spring:
- We installed a total of 7.4 kW DC, which is projected to have the following environmental and economic impacts for the family and the community:
- $69,000 value of energy generated this system over its lifetime (direct savings to families)
- 142 tons of carbon emissions prevented (equivalent of planting over 3,295 trees)
