MKThink, the San Francisco ideas company for the built environment, integrates performance, aesthetics, and sustainability factors into thoughtful solutions to complex problems. Current work includes long-term strategic planning and new designs for education, community, and tech projects. Our clients include premier educational, corporate, non-profit, and healthcare institutions.
MKThink is looking for talented and enthusiastic students to participate in out summer internship program. Ideal candidates are creative, responsible, and personable with strong communication, design, and analytical abilities. As an intern at MKThink, you will support studio work for MKThink clients as well as produce a report on a focused research project.
This is an excellent opportunity for current students to add real world experience to their educational credentials.
MKThink is seeking individuals for three business units:
1. Architecture Studio: This internship position offers the opportunity to gain both hands-on practical experience on real architectural projects and exposure to theoretical exploration. Participate in the day-to-day activities of real architectural projects, plus, learn how to organize studio resources, assist in the development of marketing collateral, and contribute to a culture of design-thinking excellence. The successful candidate will be exceptionally talented, self-motivated, industrious, and resourceful.
Qualifications:
Student in an accredited architectural degree-granting program
A keen interest in materials and material research
Awareness of and interest in sustainable design concepts
Working knowledge of:
AutoCAD, SketchUp, (VRay a plus), and Adobe CS
Strong graphic and writing skills

2. Strategy Studio: Work with databases to generate utilization and occupancy models for existing and planned facilities. Synthesize written materials, graphic design, and data visualizations into clear and vibrant presentations, publications and web content.

Qualifications:
A positive attitude and a curious mind
Experience with graphic design and presentations
A portfolio that shows data analysis skills and experience
Strong writing and communication skills
Self-motivated and responsive to direction at the same time
Working knowledge of:
Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software
Quantitative research methodologies
Filemaker Pro or similar relational database software
Adobe Creative Suite
Microsoft Office, Apple iWork or equivalent software
Social media and/or Web Design skills are a plus
CAD skills are a plus
3. Innovation Studio / RoundhouseOne:
The Innovation Studio at MKThink researches, incubates, and enterprises services and technologies that improve the inter-related performance of Culture, Architecture, and the Environment. Specifically, the studio focuses on four core areas of development: Data & Analytics, Interim Use, Productization, and Buildings & Behavior. The development of these areas manifests itself in a variety of internal and external (client-facing) projects that serve as research and test beds for creation and refinement of the aforementioned products and services.
RoundhouseOne (RH1) is a data analytics company that was created and incubated within the Innovation Studio of MKThink. RH1 offers professional services and Cloud-based technology to help clients capture and use data to understand the interdependencies between their physical assets, environment and human capital.
We are seeking a savvy, problem-tackling intern with a passion for tinkering in the shop and a thirst for capturing and analyzing data using basic coding techniques. Tasks may include creating data collection kits-of-sensors as well as coding communication protocols for collection of data via remote servers – and even analyzing the data and creating insightful outputs.

Qualifications:
Have or working toward a BS in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Management Science or other technical field that has a healthy mix of shop work and theory
At least one previous internship or job (preferred but not required)
Strong writing and communication skills
Comfortable working with shop tools and related materials
Analytical and inquisitive with the ability to self-direct
Proactive Team player with an enthusiastic and positive attitude
Ability to multi-task, problem solve and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

We are seeking interns with education & experience in one or multiple of the following disciplines:
Engineering- Electrical, Mechanical, Management Science
Applied Mathematics- Statistics
Information Sciences- Database management and data analysis skills
Designer- Product design (please include examples with your application)
Designer- Infographics & Data visualization (please include examples with your application)
Architecture and/or Environmental Studies- Building and Energy Systems knowledge

Working knowledge of:
Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software (relational database experience a plus)
C, C++, Javascript, or other basic coding languages
Quantitative research methodologies
Microsoft Office, Apple iWork or equivalent software
Adobe Creative Suite

Hours & Compensation: The internships begin on May 20th and end August 16th. You will receive a stipend of $5,760 for the 13 weeks of the internship.
