African American Studies 159 - Black Bodies: Race, Sexuality, and Popular Culture - summer course
Begin forwarded message:
Hello Everyone,
I'll be teaching my last course at Cal during Summer Session A. The class is called "Black Bodies: Race, Sexuality, and Popular Culture." It's a cultural history of how black sexuality has been represented in U.S. media. We'll look at pop icons throughout time and explore the ways in which they changed (or reinforced) tropes of blackness, how industries formed around them, and how race and gender in general works in American iconography. The poster for the class is attached. If you know anybody who might be interested feel free to spread the word, and let me know if you have any questions.
