Program Designers

The Excelsior Action Group (non-profit) is administering a $36,000 grant
to reduce blight in the Excelsior Neighborhood of San Francisco. This
small business facade improvement program will be providing businesses
that qualify a $2000 grant for facade improvements which will be designed
by a team of  volunteers that we are currently soliciting interest for.

As a general overview, program designers will work with a business owner
to address their individual needs and come up with a design that
beautifies the community. This design will then get constructed using
funds we provide. We will be targeting roughly 18 businesses and the
entire project is scheduled to be finished by March 31, 2012. That's a
very tight deadline.

The commitment we require, if you wish to participate, is to complete a
design for at least one business. Of course we'd love it if you have time
to work with more businesses.

I've attached the draft document detailing the program for business
owners, as well as a document detailing your role as a designer in the
program (designer packet).

Send me an email if you're interested in being a designer for the program
so we can set up a time to talk / meet. Basically the design phase is
going to be taking place from now through December. It’s a short time
frame. Because the end of the semester is drawing near, I don't expect
current students to have time to participate in this program until after
finals. This means that committing to this program will take up your
winter break. Realize that this should be viewed as a mini studio project
to be started and finished over winter break. One that will actually get
built in San Francisco by March 31, 2012 (so built before this upcoming
summer).

Please connect me with any other designers you think would be interested
in this project. The more interested designers we can get the better.
