Botanical Garden Job opening - Plant Science Educator

Spend this summer at the UC Botanical Garden,
sharing the excitement of plant science and nature explorations with children

Job Description:
Under direction, plan, organize, and conduct a variety of educational walks and hands-on activities for children that will teach about and build upon their knowledge and love of plants and the environment. Plan and execute themed lessons for week-long day camps (M-F, 9am–2pm, plus Aftercare 2-4pm), structuring activities such as basic botany, gardening, arts and crafts, stories, explorations in the garden, and nature studies for groups of twelve 5-7 yr olds and 8- 10 yr olds. With co-counselor, assume responsibility for the safety, comfort, and fun educational experience of the children at all times.

Enjoy teaching young children and have experience planning and directing children's activities in a group setting. Knowledge of plants, botany, ecology, gardening, or similar desired. Excellent organizational and communication skills with children and adults, highly motivated, responsible and dependable. Open to both Cal students and non-students.

Part time, May 2017
Full time, June - August 18, 2017
Pay: $13-$18/hour depending on experience
Potential for continuing on after summer in the Education Department.
