Student Advisory Council on Financial Aid & Education- Call for Applications!!!

Description:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor’s Student Advisory Council on Financial Aid & Education provides a unique opportunity for motivated students to provide confidential advice to the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director of Financial Aid and other senior campus administrators on matters concerning financial aid, affordability and financial literacy. Council members help influence decisions that directly impact access and affordability at Cal. Detailed information is available in the charge.

Qualifications:
·         are able and willing to make a firm commitment to attend a regularly scheduled 90 minute monthly meeting (note: consistent attendance is required for membership in the group)
·         have a passion for empowering students to make the best financial choices possible through a strong financial literacy program and a strong interest in discussing innovative aid programs to keep higher education affordable at Cal.
·         are comfortable engaging in lively discussion and respectfully listening to a variety of opinions in a group setting;
·         are able to respect the confidentiality of the Council and to offer thoughtful advice on a variety of sensitive topics.
Students must be available to attend monthly meetings in the evening starting January 2017. Dates and location to be determined.
We are recruiting student representatives from a variety of backgrounds and majors. We are especially interested in including students from one or more of the following programs/groups:
·         Educational Opportunity Program
·         Student Parent Center
·         ReEntry Student Center
·         Transfer Student Center
·         Berkeley Hope Scholars
·         Graduate Assembly
·         ASUC
·         Undocumented Student Program
·         Student Veteran Services
·         Student Advocates Office
·         Incentive Awards Program
·         George A. Miller Scholars Program

·         Statement explaining why you want to serve on the Council and what unique perspective you would bring
Deadline for submission: Applications must be submitted by Monday, December 5, 2016. Students selected to participate on the Council will be notified during the week of December 12th.
