GENERAL
DESCRIPTION:

Candidates must be enrolled in a Department of Education accredited college or university in the
current term, or the term prior to and/or subsequent to their internship with VTA. The enrollment
must be full time, consisting of 12 semester or quarter units.  Please read this entire job announcement before applying for the Student Intern position, print and keep a copy of this announcement so that you can refer to it.  Official proof of current, previous, or upcoming term full time enrollment must be attached to the
application - Incomplete applications will be rejected. Candidates must check their own application

Student Interns are college-level students enrolled in curricula pertinent to VTA’s needs, and are employed
for a limited term. Student Interns are typically assigned one or more projects that are research-oriented
and involve interaction with several departmental units and/or several VTA Divisions. The activities
performed are typically sub-professional or technical duties and are related to the student’s field of study.

FUNCTIONS:

Typical Tasks
Specific tasks will vary depending on the student’s field of study and the area of assignment.
· Collect, correlate, and tabulate data; learn to interpret and evaluate information in accordance with
established policies and procedures;
· Research issues relevant to the assigned Division; participate in team analysis of problems;
· Participate in the preparation of reports and preliminary studies;
· Assist in analyzing information and preparing recommendations on systems, equipment, and
business processes of VTA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in the current term, or the term prior to
and/or subsequent to their internship with VTA if their internship is to begin during the summer break. The
enrollment must be/have been considered by the college or university to be full time.
VERY IMPORTANT: Proof of current, previous or the up-coming term, FULL TIME (12 units-semester or
quarter) enrollment in a Department of Education accredited college or university is required. Additionally
proof of enrollment in the upcoming semester or quarter in an accredited college or university is also
required. These required education documents must be attached to your application and is required to
verify all educational units listed on your application. Official transcripts are not necessary. Copies of
existing diplomas, degrees, or foreign transcript evaluations must also be attached to the submitted
application as a pdf.

All Student Interns must have clear academic standing and continuing enrollment in an appropriate
curriculum. Continuation of an internship is at all times contingent upon acceptable performance of the
intern and the availability of funds. Internships may start at any time of the year, but are limited to no more
than 999 hours in any fiscal year. Student Interns are bound by applicable VTA policies and procedures,
particularly those concerning nepotism.  Student Intern positions are non-benefitted.

the varied functions in Service Planning & Accessible Services especially in the development of
new or updated programs such as transit advertising shelters, paratransit services, passenger
facilities, contracted services and new transit services. The Intern will also assist with other
planning duties including field reviews of service and bus stops; developing maps, charts, and

Department. Under supervision, the student intern will assist in various and technical
transportation planning activities under the mentorship of senior staff. The intern will assist
with on-going projects such as Express Lanes, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Complete
Streets, Transportation System Monitoring Program and VTA Highway projects. The intern will

* 10. We are also recruiting for an Internship in the Recruitment & Selection Unit of the Human
Resources Department. Under direction of an HR Analyst, the Intern will be assigned an entire
recruitment from inception to completion. Mors specifically the intern will coordinate with Hiring
Authorities to plan effective recruitment strategies, select cost-effective advertising
alternatives, place the advertising, screen applications for minimum qualifications, determine
effective testing options for recruitments, administer and score tests. The intern will alos
facilitate the appointment process for each assigned recruitment. The intern will learn to use

* 11. We are seeking an Intern to support the Employee Development Unit's functions. Under
supervision, the Intern will support training programs, projects and organizational development
applications of a limited scope, as well as recognition and other programs for all employees.
Typical tasks may include conducting subject matter literature reviews to be incorporated into
training materials and curriculum. Additional duties include writing, editing and preparing print
training handbooks, manuals, scripts, course handouts and related materials. Further, the
Intern will coordinate training locations, facilities, instructors, accouncements, program supplies
and equipment in preparation for training sessions. The intern will shadow staff and observe the
training implementation process. Additionally, the Intern will assist with programs such as:

Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate degree in progress in Human Resources
Management, Organizational Development, Organizational Behavior, Industrial Psychology,
MBA, MPA or a related field. An interest in gaining hands-on experience with Human Resources
in the transportation industry is required.
