The City of Oakland has internships!

The following are internship positions for the City of Oakland along with a brief description that follows:
  1. Ambassador Intern
  2. Communication
  3. Constituent Correspondent
  4. Proclamation Coordinator
  5. Special Events
Goals:
The Ambassador Intern serves the people and Mayor of Oakland by helping to organize and staff the
Mayor’s table at outdoor events thereby enabling the Mayor to extend her community outreach. Reporting
to the Mayor’s Special Assistant or Volunteer Coordinator, the Ambassador Intern assists with event
planning, preparation, implementation and follow-up. Training and supervision will be provided by senior
members of the mayor’s staff and experienced volunteers.

Goals:
The Media Intern serves the people and the Mayor of Oakland by assisting in the
development of content for her communications program and by monitoring print,
television, radio, blogs, social media and community communications about the City of
Oakland and its residents. The Media intern will research and write content for the Mayor’s
communications outlets—the weekly e-newsletter, website, Facebook page—and will track
mention of the City, its leaders and residents by compiling and analyzing coverage and
distributing to key staff and leadership via print or electronically. Reporting to the Mayor’s
Communications Director, the Media Intern may recommend responses, messages and
assist in preparing press releases. Training and supervision will be provided by the Mayor’s
Communications Director.

Goals:
The Constituent Correspondent serves the people and Mayor of Oakland by reviewing, analyzing,
researching and responding to constituent comments about City policy and programs. Using resources
developed by communications and management staff, the Constituent Correspondent answers emails,
letters and some phone calls from Oakland residents and stakeholders. Reporting to the Mayor’s
Community Services Director, the Constituent Correspondent tracks topics of communication and analyzes
trends, reporting on concerns and comments, and may propose messaging and communications
campaigns. Training and supervision will be provided by senior members of the mayor’s staff and
experienced volunteers.

Goals:
The Proclamation Coordinator serves the people and Mayor of Oakland by researching,
writing, and producing proclamations, support letters and certificates that recognize
community or individual achievement. Reporting to the Mayor’s Administrative Assistant,
the Proclamations coordinator responds to requests by residents and organizations. To
protect the City and Mayor’s office, the Coordinator carefully researches the request,
accuracy and context, editing as necessary and securing the approval of the Deputy Mayor
before materials are produced. Training will be provided by the Mayor’s Administrative
Assistant and experienced volunteers.

Goals:
The Special Events Intern serves the people and Mayor of Oakland by helping to organize community
events, meetings and activities thereby enabling the Mayor to extend her community outreach. Reporting
to the Mayor’s Special Assistant or Volunteer Coordinator, the Special Events Intern assists with event
planning, preparation, implementation and follow-up. Training and supervision will be provided by senior
members of the mayor’s staff and experienced volunteers.
